Parent Participation

Over the years we have found a strong correlation between the quality of parental involvement and the quality of children’s growth. Frequently, those children who seem most fully able to use our program, materials and learning experiences as catalysts for their own growth, come from families who are able to participate in their initial school experience with support, depth and genuine interest. When parents and family members are able to build relationships and friendships within the school community, children often are able to do the same. When parents are able to enrich the school environment with their own talents, interests and ideas, children are also more frequently able to do so as well. For these reasons, we are a Parent Participation Nursery School.

The participation requirements for each family are outlined below:

Participation on one committee of your preference, including but not limited to: Communications Committee, Fundraising Committee, Substitute Committee, Special Events Committee, and Workday Committee. In addition, a family could choose to serve on the Board of Directors and participate in the governing of the school as a whole.
Participation in the annual fundraiser held in the spring.
Participation in eight hours of workday activity, including maintenance, gardening, painting, or other facility improvement work.
Mandatory attendance at two General membership meetings.

We have created a myriad of ways for each family to fulfill their participation requirements. In the same way that our program is structured to allow children to make choices that are meaningful to them, we encourage parents to participate in the life of the school in ways that are meaningful to them. It is vital to the health, development and morale of the school community that parents freely participate. If it becomes apparent that this philosophy is at odds with that of a given family, it may be suggested that the family find a school more suited to its needs.
