THE DAILY PROGRAM
All Children Great and Small is a year-round preschool. There are approximately eighteen children per class session with three teachers. In addition, the school serves as a teaching center for teachers-in-training who assist with the daily activities throughout the year.
Inside Time
Our program is divided into indoor and outdoor activities. We begin each session with activities inside the classroom. Each child is greeted by a teacher as she or he enters the classroom and then given the freedom to explore the various learning activities and interest centers. These activities and learning centers reflect a variety of interests from drawing to construction to dress-up. Teachers strive to provide something new or some way that is new, but enough remains the same to provide the securities and comforts of familiarity. Depending upon the needs of the group, the time spent inside the classroom is usually an hour to an hour and a half.
Snack Time
Snack time is our primary large group experience. It is our most structured time of the day. A story, music or other group activity is part of this experience. Children are encouraged to pour their own juice with the support of spill-erasers (sponges) handy. Children are also encouraged to eat, but are free to do so or not as their tastes determine.
Outside Time
After snack time, children are excused to the playground for a variety of outside experiences. Climbing, running, riding tricycles, digging, swinging, and other outside activities are valued equally with inside learning activities. Children are usually outside for the last half of each session. Throughout the year parent committees plan field trips and special events. We have traveled to museums, local bakeries, firehouses, pumpkin patches and the aquarium. Parent education nights are also scheduled throughout the year based on parent need and interest and range in topics from separation issues to kindergarten readiness.
